University District, Seattle - On the Road With Roger: The University District in Seattle - or as locals have dubbed it "The U District" - is so named because the University of Washington campus is located in the neighborhood. Condos and apartments surround the campus, but the architecture of the older homes will delight you. You’ll find grand Tudor, Colonial, and Craftsman homes built in the early 1900s for fraternities and sororities. As the neighborhood expanded north from campus, large homes - many converted into boarding houses - and small Craftsman bungalows were built. The U District is located east of I-5 and Wallingford, west of Laurelhurst, south of Roosevelt and Ravenna neighborhoods, and north of Portage Bay and Montlake.
